The Middle Keys are the heart of the Florida Keys and include Long Key, Conch Key, Duck Key, Marathon and Key Colony Beach.  The Marathon homes for sale listed below include these areas, waterfront as well as non waterfront.

Traveling south from the Upper Keys, you’ll find Long Key first, which includes the City of Layton.  You’ll travel over the Long Key Bridge (3 miles) and see Conch Key on the bayside, a quaint little fishing village of residential homes and Coral Key on the ocean side.  Coral Key used to be mainly a mobile home community but many are now being replaced with single family homes.  Traveling another couple miles south, you’ll see Duck Key on the ocean side. Here you’ll find the infamous Hawk’s Cay Resort where you can spend a few nights at the main hotel or in one of the 200+ villas on it’s resort grounds.  Also on Duck Key, you’ll find an upscale residential neighborhood of waterfront and non waterfront homes.  After Duck Key, begins the City of Marathon with Grassy Key, home of the Dolphin Research Center and a large residential area on the Gulf side and some homes and a few motels on the ocean side.  Grassy Key is about 6 miles long.  Coco Plum Beach comes up next on the ocean side. At the beginning of Coco Plum Drive, you’ll find our commercial fishing district, where you’ll see many marine and lobster businesses. When the road curves to the left, you’ll see condominiums along the right (oceanfront) and residential canalfront homes on the left off all the “avenues”. There is also a public beach on Coco Plum, which is dog friendly (no leash).  Adjacent to Coco Plum is Key Colony Beach, a popular vacation destination for many, with it’s resort like feel and tons of amenities. Half duplex properties to ocean front estates are here, along with several restaurants, a couple of hotels, charter boats, 9 hole golf course and a public park on the ocean.   Key Colony Beach has been it’s own City since 1957 and is not regulated by the City of Marathon.  Many streets in Marathon are located right off US 1 and are numerical, which makes it easy to find 100th Street or 24th Street.  There are neighborhoods like Sombrero Beach (one of the nicest in Marathon) which has a beautiful public beach (end of Sombrero Beach Rd).   Marathon also has a small airport (no commercial jets) for private and charter planes.  The area behind the airport is a large residential community that is also the gathering spot every year for Trick or Treating.  Marathon is also home to the popular beachfront resort, Tranquility Bay.  Drive to the end of Marathon and you’ll end up at the 7 Mile Bridge. The old 7 Mile runs parallel to the new one and many people enjoy getting their exercise “walking the bridge” every morning or catching the beautiful sunsets in the evenings.
